Work from home is arguably the largest long lasting lifestyle change that has come from the Covid pandemic. For many people, regular attendance in the office is a thing of the past, and this leaves open a huge range of opportunities to see new places without eating into precious holiday days.
Campervans and motorhomes have come an increasingly popular way of sticking to the practicalities of working from home – it’s just that the home can now have a different view every other day! With a bit of planning, you can enjoy working and travelling. Here are our top tips:
Make Sure Your Internet Connection Is Solid
This is actually where your own touring vehicle can surpass a hotel. Whilst coffee shops are always a strong choice for getting good WIFI, they’re not always the best spot for meetings or quiet working. Investing in a Maxview Mobile WIFI device means that for the price of a data only sim each month, you can have all your devices working quickly, wherever you get 4G signal. There are also plenty of sites with good WIFI, although if you need fast downloads etc it may be worth calling ahead to check their strength before you rely on it.
Set Out Your Desk For Long Term Success
Whether the desk is outside, at your dinette table or on your bed, being able to sit comfortably for long periods of time is essential. Make sure you are able to sit upright with adequate support for your back and arms. For outdoors, a chair with lumbar support will be essential (check out our high back outdoor chairs in our accessories shop!).
Establish Your Routine
While the thrill of working whilst touring is in the changes around you, for your work day, routine can work wonders. Setting yourself small breaks, and a firm start and finish time will mean you can enjoy your surroundings and be your usual productive self.
Don’t Leave Charging to Chance
Your laptop can be charged while you are hooked up to mains electric, so if you’re staying on a site this will take care of itself. However, if you are planning to do work al fresco or do a spot of wilder camping, you may need back up. Total Cool portable generator, for example, ensures a constant supply of juice for your equipment, wherever you are on your adventures.
Consider Extra Space
Especially important if there is more than one of you, creating extra space can make working from your motorhome or campervan a doddle. Many of our rentals offer a sun canopy to create some outdoor space. Alternatively, there’s the aforementioned coffee shops and many towns have informal co-working spaces if you need extra room.

As you will have undoubtedly seen, the news is currently saturated with the terrible situation with Ukraine. Here Motorhome Rent UK and at our partner site Preston Caravans and Motorhomes we have been feeling, as I’m sure many of you have, a strong pull to do something to help the people in this dire situation.
We have pledged to take a convoy to the Poland/Ukraine border. Our drivers will be volunteers from our Preston Caravan’s team, with a loan campervan from Motorhome Rent UK. We will also be joined by a Polish/Ukrainian interpreter and a further volunteer who has already completed a trip to the Ukrainian border, whose contacts we will be using throughout our trip. We will be setting off on the 6th April.
On the journey out, we will be taking specialised medical equipment, winter baby clothes, satellite phones and walkie talkies, as per the request of the teams down in Medyka. These have already been gathered and are ready to go.
Once there, we are working with the Ukraine Border Action to collect 36 refugees who need to be reunited with family, friends or sponsors in the UK and Europe. As the refugee group will be almost exclusively women, children and elderly people, we are bringing a motorhome as a support vehicle for those who have medical or child nursing needs on the road. In addition, we have bought 2 minibuses to transport people, and a transit van to transport aid on the outward journey and luggage on the return trip.
We are asking for your help
We are estimating that this journey in total will cost around £12,000. Any contribution towards fuel, accommodation on the return journey, ferry crossings or food for our convoy would be greatly appreciated.
Similarly, if you have any contacts that would be able to assist us (hotels near manufacturers you often use that might be able to give us a bulk discount rate etc) that would be fantastic.
We have had significant media interest in our plans, with the BBC following us back from the UK, and we will of course ensure we give credit to all those who have supported us, including our updates on our social media platforms and website. I think this will become a story of the industry pulling together to help those who desperately need it.
All costings will be made totally transparent so you can see exactly how your contributions have helped, and should we be fortunate enough to make more than we need, we will put this toward a second trip. We will of course be updating our company social media as our journey progresses so you will be able to see in real time the difference that you have made while we take our refugees back to the UK.
We have set us a JustGiving Page, to make it easy to donate and see how our fundraising is going.
